Twenty-Seventh Tribal Council in office

The Twenty-Seventh Tribal Council took office on Monday, May 2.  The Council hosted a morning swearing-in ceremony, and then conducted their first meeting shortly after.

The Council unanimously re-appointed Councilman Austin Greene as the chairman.  New on the Council, Jody Calica, former three-term secretary-treasurer, was the choice for vice chair.

The Council agreed to advertise the positions of secretary-treasurer for 60 days.  Meanwhile, current secretary-treasurer Glendon Smith will continue to serve as S-T.

The Council this week spend one day in formal review of the major documents of the Confederated Tribes. This the orientation session for the new Council.

The Council members who took office this week are Chairman Greene, Carina Miller and Val Switzler (Agency District); Jody Calica, Ron Suppah and Raymond Tsumpti (Simnasho); and Lee Tom (Seekseequa).

The second Council position for Seekseequa remained open pending a review of the matter by the BIA Agency Superintendent John Halliday.
