May Fit Food Tip

It is National Strawberry Month. Berries are considered a fruit in the food pyramid. Why is it important to eat fruit?  Fruit provides you with vital nutrients such as dietary fiber, potassium, and vitamin C. Which people often do not get enough vitamins or fiber.

So how much fruit  should you have? As a guide, an adult needs about 1.5-2 cups of fruits every day. You can choose fresh, frozen, dried or canned fruit, but you should go easy on the fruit juice. With berries coming into being in season, it is a great time to get fresh though! If you pick your own then you also get in some exercise. This monthly food tip is from Warm Springs Diabetes Program.
