Adults should get 2 ½ to 3 cups a day and children should get 2-3. Why? Because Vegetables are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, and vitamins.
An example of the health benefits are eating vegetables rich in potassium, like spinach, may lower blood pressure and help to decrease bone loss. Generally eating a diet rich in vegetables will reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. Veggies are lower in calories too. So when trying to lose weight the low calorie and high fiber content will help you feel full. This monthly food tip is from the Warm Springs Diabetes Program.
